Kings of the Ring- Rafa Vs Roger

Federer v Nadal. Williams v Williams and a racist in the white house.
Feels like I’ve fallen asleep and woken up in 2008.
“A tennis masterclass”

“A near faultless display”

“Completely dominant”

“Unleashed his full array of shots”

“Inspired play”

“Federer maintained his brilliance”

“Federer completed what promises to be the first of many Grand Slam victories”

The excerpts above were extracted from a prophetical article published by the BBC following Roger Federer‘s first Grand Slam victory, which came at Wimbledon in 2003 against Mark Philippoussis.

I started watching tennis 8 years ago and the man for whom I became a tennis geek was Federer. Whether it is physical immorality or unrivaled consistency, he is the Impossible, the Intangible, the Indescribable and the legendary tennis monster.

“You guys have tried to kill Roger—often. But he’s always come back and proved you wrong. So one thing I would not do is make the mistake of saying Roger is dead.”

     -Rafael Nadal

Apart from Federer, it’s always been Nadal, the traditional rival of Federer Express. Talking about Australian Open, it was already a majestic event as both legends were taking part in it. What more would tennis lovers expect from tennis watching these two kings roaring for the trophy and the time has finally come.

I got myself jammed to watch the semi final today for 4 hours and 56 minutes. Damn.. But it was worth it. No matter that Rafa made it into finals but Dimitrov’s body language was mesmerizing. When Grigor Dimitrov hit a final backhand long of the baseline, Rod Laver Arena erupted and Rafael Nadal fell face down on the ground in elation. Dimitrov, aka ‘Baby Fed’, possesses almost identical stylistic traits to the actual Federer whom Nadal will face in 40 hours.

I supported tennis today, watched the game, appreciated the play, enjoyed Dimitrov responding to shots of a great sportsman but being a Federer fan, I’m gonna sit tightly waiting for Sunday to see a great final. For Federer, the percentages are superfluous.  His skill and talent have allowed him to operate in such a way in which every shot is high-percentage. Perhaps it would be the last time they will play final of a grand slam. And Australian Open did it in the best possible way, giving tennis lovers a match, they were actually dreaming of..!!
